Experience DFW
mission:
DFW Airport created a community engagement initiative with the goal of educating the public of the inner workings of the airport and allowing them a closer look at operations. They knew the name was to be Experience DFW and I was enlisted to invent a look and feel for the first advocacy program of its kind.
process:
To begin, Experience DFW had to have a logo. Since DFW Airport already has what they call a “journey line” going through their current logo, I decided to play off that theme and design and use it in the Experience DFW logo as well. Once the logo was established, I decided to incorporate purple from their secondary color palette, to be the main color used throughout all the collateral. Yellow and blue, also part of the secondary palette would be included in the PowerPoint template I created. DFW Airport’s brand is known for being traditional so for this program, I merged the corporate vibe with beautiful imagery. I included pictures of the terminals at night/sunset to match the color story. Along with the development of the new look and feel of the program, I was asked to create a fresh perspective on their PowerPoint presentation they would need to aid their speeches. I took this opportunity to bring in more iconography and stunning photography to enhance the presentation and make it unforgettable.
results:
Since inauguration of Experience DFW in 2018, the program still lives on today. It has continued to educate the community of the importance of DFW Airport. My designs have also stood the test of time and remain in place. Executives were so impressed with the PowerPoint template that it is not only used for Experience DFW, but also as the default template for all other presentations that are given publicly.
What’s Your Connection? Video Series
Mission:
DFW Airport Corporate Communications team in conjunction with the HR team wanted a video series intended to spotlight individuals working at the airport and also those with a special connection to the airport. I was tasked to be on the lookout for unique stories from the passengers and workers alike. The series was intended to debut on DFW Airport’s social channels (Facebook & Twitter).
process:
The hardest part of storytelling is finding the story. The series began with the story of Braden Baker, a local boy who was traveling from DFW to GUA to bring the community much needed hearing aids. We heard about the story from his appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and we reached out to his family to see if we could film his takeoff and return from DFW. From then, the series blossomed to featuring DFW Airport Ambassadors, a local man known for his airport-inspired tattoos, the elusive DFW Airport Baggage team and finally DFW Airport HR employee, the only person brave enough to ride his bike to work. Each story came with a unique twist and allowed the public a look into their lives.
results:
The series was made to be evergreen but unfortunately ended when my journey ended at the airport. During its run, engagement numbers were good but the real take away was the pride these individuals felt after they had the opportunity to tell their story. For the DFW Airport employees, it was a unique experience and brought a feeling of unity to the team environment. And as the videographer and concept creator of this project, it was a tremendous help in building my video shooting and edits skills. The final video with Allan Jones includes some of my favorite scenes that I’ve shot to date.
Miscellaneous Social Posts
While at DFW Airport, my main job revolved around social media. So I put my photography and videography to work and developed fun and compelling content to fill Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. Pictured here are some examples of the content I created.
